Sarasota County Graduation Rate Dips

Three Sarasota high schools improved their graduation rates this year, while the county’s overall rate slightly dipped.
The Florida Department of Education released the graduation and dropout rate report Monday for Sarasota County School District, which details how the county decreased slightly from a 84.3 percent rate in 2010 to a 83.5 percent rate in 2011. The rate is still above the state average of 80.1 percent.
“While we certainly would like to see our district’s graduation rate improve every year, we are pleased that it remains well above the state average and that the dropout rate has improved from last year,” said Superintendent Lori White in a news release.
Last year Florida adopted a method of calculating graduation rates developed by the National Governors Association to ensure consistency from state to state.
