Flags In Florida At Half-Staff For Neil Armstrong
Gov. Rick Scott directed that all flags would be lowered to half-staff Friday for Neil Armstrong. The retired astronaut had died Aug. 25 at the age of 82.
It was on the Apollo 11 mission when on July 21, 1969, he famously said, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind," while he trekked across the lunar surface. Though the world never heard "a man" and instead "man," according to Armstrong, due to early broadcast technology, and was later verified using digital technology in 2006.
That mission was launched at Cape Canaveral on Florida's Space Coast setting off decades of inspirational moments in space exploration.

SCAT Bus Bomb Threat Considered 'SWATing' Hoax
At about 9:15 a.m., Monday the Sarasota County switchboard received a call from an undetermined number with a male caller saying authorities have 24 hours to figure out which SCAT bus had a bomb on it, according to the sheriff's office. The caller then hung up.
Fortunately for the detectives, the search took place today as SCAT canceled all bus service due to Tropical Storm Isaac. All busses at the depot were thoroughly searched and no explosive devices were found, according to the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office is trying to trace the call and believe it's a SWATing case, where people hack Internet telephony programs, some of them even used on XBox Live, to manipulate the system to make a call

Isaac Brings Rough Surf To Gulf Of Mexico, Lido Key
The rough surf off of Lido Key makes the Gulf of Mexico look more like the Atlantic Ocean, and the county says wave heights of six to eight feet could produce dangerous rip currents as Tropical Storm Isaac continues to pass through Sarasota. Lifeguards are on duty today.
It's possible that more rain could be on the way as the system rotates, said Ed McCrane, chief of Sarasota County Emergency Management.
"Right now it looks nice outside, but looking at the radar and based on what the Weather Service has told us, we can anticipate rain bans — numerous rain bans will continue to impact the area," McCrane said in a video update provided by Sarasota County Government.

Isaac May Bring Heavy Rain, Tornadoes to Tampa Bay
“(We’re) expecting Isaac to stay well out to the west,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Roger Gass. However, “rain bands will continue to move across the area.”
There’s also a threat for isolated tornadoes today and a possible storm surge of 1 to 3 feet above normal in the coastal areas at high tide, Gass added. Strong wind gusts are also possible.
Isaac was located about 180 miles southwest of Ft. Myers at 5 a.m. today, Aug. 27, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm is heading west northwest at 14 mph and has maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. It is anticipated to strengthen into a hurricane sometime tomorrow and may make landfall

Isaac: Stay Off Flooded Roads During Tropical Storm
Sarasota County is under a tropical storm warning, tornado watch and flood warning for the Myakka River
Flood stage is at 11 feet for the Myakka Rive head, and at 7 feet near Myakka State Park, according to the National Weather Service. The Myakka River head area is expected to rise above 13 feet by Tuesday afternoon and crest that day, falling on Wednesday. The river is expected to rise to 7.9 feet near Myakka State Park, according to the report.
It's possible that additional warnings, including an isolated tornado warning could develop as Isaac moves across the Gulf of Mexico.
Drivers should avoid flooded areas, officials remind residents. Storm surge is expected to

Most Tampa Area Warnings Remain as Isaac Moves Near Keys
“Even though it does look like conditions are going to be improving, we still want people to be on the lookout,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Jessica Talley.
The tropical storm warnings remain in effect for Sarasota, Manatee, Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. Only the coastal area of Pasco County is still under a tropical storm warning.
The National Hurricane Center put Isaac just south of Key West as of its 5 p.m. advisory. The storm is moving west northwest at 16 mph and has maximum sustained winds of 60 mph. Isaac is still expected to reach hurricane strength as it makes its way through the Gulf of Mexico. The storm’s projected landfall is somewhere between New Orleans,

Isaac: Storm Surge Could Be Worse Than Debby
"We were told by the Hurricane Center and the Weather Service that the storm surge associated with Isaac may be similar to [Tropical Storm] Debby with another one to three feet on top of that and some crashing waves," said Ed McCrane, chief of Sarasota County Emergency Management during a press conference Sunday afternoon at the Sarasota County Administration Building.
Because of that storm surge, which rises the level of the sea and brings it closer to homes, McCrane "highly recommends" the evacuation of Manasota Key in south county. Evacuation is not required yet. That area which has many homes along a narrow stretch of land had already suffered great beach erosion during Tropical

Tropical Storm Warnings Remain Despite Isaac’s Western Shift
“It’s a pretty big storm,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Ernie Jillson. “Tropical storm force winds are extending 180 miles to the northeast of the center.”
With this in mind, Jillson said tropical storm warnings remain in effect for the entire Bay area, including Pasco, Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota and Pinellas counties. A warning means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 36 hours.
Isaac was 80 miles southeast of Key West when the National Hurricane Center released its 11 a.m. advisory. The storm is anticipated to reach hurricane strength later today.

Storm Surge Expected as Isaac Passes Tampa Bay
Even so, forecasters say the Bay area isn’t out of the danger zone just yet. The tropical storm, which is expected to reach hurricane strength sometime later today, is anticipated to bring a storm surge of 3 to 5 feet to the Tampa Bay area. It’s also likely Isaac will bring heavy rain, gusty winds and the potential for isolated tornados as it moves through the area.

The storm's winds and rainfall extend for some 200 miles from the center of Isaac, so coastal communities will still feel the storm's impact.
The tropical storm warning

“This is one of the largest crowds ever to come together for a dinner in the history of Sarasota and one of the largest ticketed events during the entire Convention week, and the event will go on as planned," Sarasota GOP Chairman Joe Gruters said in a statement. "We look forward to having one of the world’s most powerful and influential persons flying in to make this event even as Hurricane Isaac
