Bullying victims find self-confidence in martial arts
MANATEE COUNTY - If your child is having a tough time at school, it could be caused by bullying. Research by the Office of Juvenile Justice shows those who are bullied are at the greatest risk of experiencing loneliness, trouble making friends and lack of success in school.So to combat those things, some children are getting involved in martial arts.From the outside, it may appear martial arts teach children how to fight. But it's quite the opposite; it teaches self-defense and self-confidence. And experts say children who display that confidence are less likely to be bullied in the first place.You may not be able to tell by her cheerful smile, but 9-year-old Shay Crider is the victim of bullying at school.
