Interstate 75 is shut down in both directions in Sarasota due to heavy smoke and fog in the area of the 200 mile marker, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Southbound traffic is being diverted off the interstate at Exit 205 (Clark Road) and northbound traffic is being diverted at the Jacaranda Boulevard exit near Venice.
Drivers should use U.S. 41 as an alternate north-south roadway at this time, according to Highway Patrol.
The duration of the road closure is unknown at this time.
