Hard work pays off for Palmetto student headed to Harvard

PALMETTO, Fla. - It's a dream come true for a Braden River High School senior: Elizabeth Garcia is heading to Harvard in the fall. But not only is she the first student at Braden River and the only student in Manatee County to be accepted to Harvard, the $60,000 a year cost will be covered completely for 4 years by Harvard's financial aid department.As Braden River students and staff spent Monday preparing for gradation, they were also celebrating Elizabeth's acceptance to the Ivy League school. "We are all very proud of Elizabeth. This is our first student to get into Harvard. And not only did she get into Harvard, she received a very generous scholarship,” says assistant principal Alan Ramos.Elizabeth has dreamed of going to Harvard since elementary school.
