'Demon Fish' Author to Speak at Mote

The author of a book that examines the relation betweek shark and man will speak tonight at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium.
Juliet Eilperin, author of “Demon Fish: Travels Through the Hidden World of Sharks,” will speak about the evolving relationship between humans and sharks on Monday in Mote’s Special Lecture Series. The lecture starts at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7) in the Immersion Cinema at Mote Aquarium, 1600 Ken Thompson Parkway in Sarasota.
Eilperin, national environmental writer for The Washington Post, visited nearly a dozen countries to learn how human cultures are linked to sharks. She has cage-dived with great whites, paddled with Papau New Guinea islanders who try to summon sharks through a tradition called “shark calling” and even swam alongside whale sharks — gentle filter feeders the size of a bus
