5 Things: 'Red' Opens at Asolo Theater

1. Set in the studios of famed abstract expressionist Mark Rothko as he works on a series of paintings for the Four Seasons in the Seagram Building in Manhattan, “Red” follows the artist, played by Mark Zeisler, over a period of two years.
Written by John Logan (Hugo, Gladiator), “Red” captures the passion and rage the artist endures—as well as the developing relationship he has with a new assistant, played by J. D. Taylor.
“Red,” directed by Lou Jacob, opens tonight at the Historic Asolo Theatre, and runs through April 22. Tickets are $40 to $55 at the Asolo box office (941) 351-8000 or www.asolorep.org.
