Commissioners Won't Seek Appeal On Officer Childers' Hearing

Sarasota's City Commission will not pursue an appeal of a Civil Service Board decision that granted a fired officer his job back.
City Attorney Robert Fournier laid out the legal muster during a special City Commission meeting Monday of what an appeal would have to meet in order for the Circuit Court to hear an appeal on the case of Officer Christopher Childers, who was fired for a 2009 arrest where he kicked an intoxicated Juan Perez.
"The decision isn't so much whether you like or dislike the results, it's more based on whether there is going to be a legal basis for the appeal," Fournier told the commission.
The commission accepted Fournier's recommendation and declined to vote on seeking an appeal.
