2011 Year in Review: Publix renovation planned for 2012

The Longboat Key Planning and Zoning Board has been considering this year a site plan and application for a redeveloped Publix and Avenue of the Flowers Shopping Center, which also includes a town center. And town staff is recommending approval of the plan after months of negotiations and working with the applicant to increase buffering and configure parking and other issues optimally.
The proposed new Publix will be 49,533 square feet, an increase from the current 38,565 square feet. The addition of liquor and pharmaceutical sales is also in the plan. The shops next to and including Nosh-A-Rye are owned by Howard Rooks. Publix intends to buy and add 1.52 acres from that parcel and add it to the main parcel.
