2011 Year in Review: St. Denis resigns, Bullock hired as manager

Former Town Manager Bruce St. Denis and former Planning, Building and Zoning Director Monica Simpson both left the town this year. First, St. Denis resigned Sept. 16, following the news that a majority of the seven-member Town Commission wanted him out of office. St. Denis had served 14 years as town manager of Longboat Key.
And while speculation regarding why a majority of the commission was so dissatisfied with St. Denis that they wished him to resign ran rampant, Town Attorney Dave Persson said St. Denis was the exception in his longevity in the position.
“Mr. St. Denis has served the town of Longboat Key for more than 14 years,” said Persson. “That’s the longest serving town manager in the town’s history. The average tenure for a town manager is about five years. The fact that Bruce has been here for almost three times
