City Of Sarasota Declares State Of Emergency

Sarasota city government is now under a State of Emergency in anticipation for Tropical Storm Isaac.
Mayor Suzanne Atwell authorized Interim City Manager Terry Lewis to declare a State of Emergency today at 10:15 a.m, according to the city. A State of Emergency allows administrative processes, including purchasing, to be expedited.
The City of Sarasota Charter allows a State of Emergency to be declared by the City Manager with the consent of one City Commissioner. Lewis has been in regular contact with City Commissioners concerning the status of Tropical Storm Isaac, according to the city.
City of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Monday. Trash collection will be canceled Monday and resume on Tuesday with collection days pushed back one day. Monday collection will be picked up on Tuesday and Tuesday
