Sea Turtle Release Tuesday

An endangered sea turtle found stranded n the Netherlands, thousands of miles from its home waters, will be released into the warm Atlantic at Lido Beach Tuesday.
Caregivers at Mote's Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital are releasing the Kemp's ridley sea turtle, nicknamed “Johnny Vasco da Gama," after a Portugese explorer.
The juvenile Kemp's ridley is a highly endangered species that spends part of its life feeding in shallow, warm waters of the western North Atlantic, particularly in the Gulf of Mexico, far where it was rescued.
The turtle was found stranded in 2008 in the Netherlands and rehabilitated in Portugal. It was brought to Mote on Nov. 29 to complete rehabilitation at the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital and outfitted with a satellite tracking system.
