Teacher pay cuts won't be retroactive to beginning of school year

BRADENTON - Teachers in Manatee County won't see as big a cut in their paychecks this school year as they first thought. The district announced Tuesday that the pay cuts will not be retroactive.That means teachers will not be cut for money earned since the beginning of the fiscal year in July 2011. Instead, the salary reductions that were approved on February 15th are effective beginning February 16th.The school district says it has the legal grounds to enact the cuts, but did not want a long legal fight.Manatee County's superintendent says the money will come from health
