Town picks telecommunications study firm

Town Manager Dave Bullock said a committee has ranked proposals to perform an island-wide telecommunications study, and TE Connectivity is the top choice. He said he is ready to move into contract negotiations. The firm proposed a cost of $36,284 to perform the study, which will take about 90 days.
Bullock said proposals ranged from $8,000 to $53,000, and the capacity, proposals and history of the companies varied widely. Bullock, in a move praised by commissioners, requested and received the help of a technology specialist from Manatee County to help vet the proposals in addition to town staff.
The technology study was requested by the Town Commission to help determine what technology challenges, problems and issues exist on the key and the best current recommended solutions on the market if problems are found.
